Evidence is still outstanding in an alleged car arson case against a Rockhampton couple accused of an illegal act in the months following their daughter’s death.
Tahlia Eason, also known as Tahlia Brown, suffered the tragic loss of her daughter Taidyn ‘Totty’ Murphy in a drowning incident last September.
Court records show Ms Brown, and her husband Cecil Murphy, currently stand charged with one count of arson each, alleged to have occurred on November 30, 2022, in Taigum – a northern suburb of Brisbane.
Some of the allegations surrounding the arson charge were revealed during the sentencing of a woman who harassed Ms Eason following her toddler’s death.
Her online harasser and husband’s ex-girlfriend, Jessie Ella Ayling, was sentenced to 12 months probation on Wednesday, May 17, for using a carriage service to menace, harass, or cause offence to Ms Brown.
The court heard Ayling had sent harassing messages telling Ms Brown to kill herself and made posts and Tik Toks blaming Ms Brown for Totty’s death.
At Ayling’s sentencing last month, defence lawyer Mickaela Brown said it was alleged Ms (Tahlia) Brown had set one of Ms Ayling’s friends’ cars on fire.
Ms Brown is currently on bail for the arson charge, and is next scheduled for mention at Rockhampton Magistrates Court on June 21.
The Rockhampton court heard on June 7 police prosecution would not be relying on a particular alleged witness’ evidence and police requested another adjournment for two more weeks to confirm if the police would still be relying on other outstanding material.
