The latest annual toll increase made “in line with the Brisbane Consumer Price Index (BCPI)” comes into effect on July 1.
From then, a trip across the Sir Leo Hielscher Bridges in a car will increase by 38 cents to $5.45 and a trip through the Legacy Way in a car will increase by 46 cents to $6.60.
Transurban operates almost every one of Australia’s toll roads with assets including Brisbane’s Gateway and Logan motorways, the Clem7, the Legacy Way, Toowoomba Bypass and Airport Link tunnels.
They also operate the Go Between Bridge between West End and Milton where motorists will soon pay $3.62 to drive its 117m length, one of the most expensive tolls in the world at a rate of $32.65 per kilometre.
The increase comes five months after Transurban reported a 16% revenue increase in their half-yearly financial report to December 2022.
In the report outgoing Chief Executive Officer Scott Charlton highlighted the “continued strength of the business model in a rising inflation and interest rate environment.”
“Around 68% of Transurban’s toll revenue is linked to CPI escalations, creating in-built inflation protection,” he said.
“Timing of escalations can be delayed depending on the asset, meaning that the flow through from recent higher inflation numbers has yet to be recognised across some of our markets.”
A Transurban spokeswoman advised motorists experiencing financial hardship to seek support.
“Our Linkt Assist team is here to help with a range of services including payment plans, more time to pay and toll credits,” she said.
